1982 Kim Wilde – Kids In America
Kim Wilde was born in England in 1960. Her father was Marty Wilde, a successful actor and singer. She and two of her brothers all became singers.
Like many of her early hits, Kim’s father and her brother Ricky wrote her first single. The Kids In America was a top five or top ten hit in most countries, with two notable exceptions: Canada and the US. The record only reached #25 on the US Hot 100 in 1982 and peaked at #34 in Canada. Two or three additional hits followed in Europe, but Kim would not reach the US top forty again until her remake of You Keep Me Hanging On topped the US chart in 1987. That song also turned out to be her last successful release in the US.
Kim continued to crank out hits in Europe through 2006. Her fourteenth album came out in 2018.
