1981 Pablo Cruise – Cool Love

1981 Pablo Cruise – Cool Love

Former members of the bands Stoneground and It’s a Beautiful Day formed Pablo Cruise in San Francisco in 1973. Nobody in the band was named Pablo Cruise.

The band signed with A&M Records and released their first album in 1975.

There were a few lineup changes before the hits started coming in 1977, but founding members Cory Lerios and David Jenkins wrote both of their top ten records. Cory played keyboards and David played guitar and they both provided vocals.

The single Whatcha Gonna Do? came from the band’s third album and reached #6 on the Hot 100 in 1977.

The band’s next two singles failed to reach the top forty. The first release from their fourth album, Love Will Find A Way, gave the band their second #6 single in 1978.

The band then had a few more singles that stalled at #21 and #19.

John Pierce joined as the group’s bass player in 1980 and he received co-writer credit with Cory and David on the band’s last top forty singleCool Love.

The single peaked at #13 in 1981.

There have been myriad lineup changes since then, but two of the original members (David and Cory) continue to lead the current incarnation of the band. The group even released a new single in 2020 and is once again touring.
