1980 Bernadette Peters – Gee Whiz

Carla was only 19 years old when she wrote and recorded Gee Whiz (Look At His Eyes). Her single for Atlantic Records reached #10 on the Hot 100 and #5 on the R&B chart in 1961.

Bernadette Peters was born in New York City and began appearing on television professionally when she was only three years old. Six years later, she began acting in plays. She arrived on the Broadway stages in 1967. Many of her plays were musicals, and she began singing on soundtrack albums. They nominated her for seven Tony awards, two of which she won.

By 1973, Bernadette also began performing in feature films. She received a Golden Globe award for her acting in Steve Martin’s film, Pennies From Heaven.

Carla Thomas wrote and recorded Gee Whiz (Look At His Eyes). Her single reached #10 on the Hot 100 in 1961.

In 1980, Bernadette’s cover of Gee Whiz became her first charting single. It reached #31 on the Hot 100 and #3 on the Adult Contemporary chart.

Bernadette continues to be active on stage and screen and has even begun writing Children’s books.
