1987 Kenny Loggins – Meet Me Halfway

1987 Kenny Loggins – Meet Me Halfway

Kenny Loggins spent a good portion of the seventies working as half of a duo with Jim Messina and later co-wrote and/or sang successful records with other artists.

His career took an unexpected but successful turn when he wrote and recorded I’m Alright for the soundtrack of the 1980 film Caddyshack

After the success of that song, other films began chasing Kenny for recordings. He charted a soundtrack single almost every year through the eighties. Giorgio Moroder and Tom Whitlock won the Academy Award for writing Take My Breath Away for the 1986 film Top Gun. They also wrote Kenny’s hit Danger Zone for the film.

When the pair wrote Meet Me Halfway for the film Over The Top, Kenny was tapped to record the theme song. His single peaked at #11 on the Hot 100 in 1987.

Kenny only reached the top forty on the Hot 100 one more time after Meet Me Halfway. It should be no surprise that the top ten single was for another film. Nobody’s Fool, the theme song for Caddyshack II, reached #8 on the Hot 100 in 1987.

The video for the song made more extensive use of a familiar groundhog than the first film.

Kenny has since recorded more records that did well on the Adult Contemporary chart, but has not reentered the Hot 100 since 1991.
